“Pink” and “Purple” are now 6 weeks old and at the end of the month they will be leaving for their new homes.  In the meantime, we are teaching them basic manners, (like fingers and toes are not chew toys 🙂 ), playing with them and just plain enjoying the brief time that we have them.

Taking care of only 2 puppies has been a very different experience, since up until now, we have only had litters ranging in size from 8-10 puppies. We find that we are spending a lot less time taking care of them and we have more time to interact with “Purple” and “Pink” as we call them.  This is also the first time that we have had a litter sired by Gandalf z Lintichu.  Some of the differences that we are noticing between these puppies and the previous ones sired by Torbi Dlha Roven are that these puppies have more expressive faces and are more heavily pigmented. (Which is a fancy way of saying that their black areas are a deeper black).

Our children are now old enough to do much more of the chores related to caring for the puppies.  Elizabeth and Keziah now take turns feeding the puppies at mealtimes and making sure that they always have fresh water and the younger children all have various things that they can do.  It is one of the children’s favourite times of the day to go downstairs and play with the puppies.

We truly enjoy the 8 weeks that we get to take care of these cute little guys and it is always a bittersweet day when they leave for their new homes, but we have great satisfaction thinking of the fun and happiness they will bring to their new families.
